Are you paying attention?
How much are you present?
Funny question you might ask, but this is important.
Watch the clip below and count the passes as instructed:
Were you paying attention?
The constant impact of the overwhelming amount of stimulus on a day to day basis leaves us in a position where we filter out information, to focus on one area. This was a benign exercise, however the consequences could be catastrophic.
Have a think about what you might be missing whilst you are focusing all your attention in one area and filtering out the rest.
The cost of 'looking' with blinkers on and missing the bigger picture could prevent you from 'seeing opportunities', but moreover could put you in danger. Imagine driving with blinkers on - only seeing the car in front of you - what might concern you about this scenario? You might think that this is a far fetched scenario, however many people do drive like this because they are over focusing on one stimulus externally or internally through thought.
I travelled as a passenger recently and the driver was focusing on the driver in front who kept slowing down and appeared somewhat lost. However, whist the driver was heavily focused on the car in front, she failed to stop at a pedestrian crossing where a person was already crossing! This could have had very serious consequences.
